The figures behind the map

Net fiscal position is taxes and contributions paid minus benefits and public services received. Across the EU-14, the JRC finds migrants averaged +€1,510 per person a year against +€32 for natives, largely because migrants are younger. Country register data tells a sharper story: in Denmark, Western immigrants and descendants contribute while non-Western groups, and MENAPT origin in particular, are a large net cost. In the Netherlands, only 20% of immigrants make a positive lifetime contribution.
